General questions:
------------------
Q: What kind of hardware do I need ?
A: Thanks to the Video For Linux interface (V4L), DVR is able to cope with a wide range of capture cards. Most common are bttv cards. See resources on V4L on the net for more.

Q: What are the files produced by DVR ?
A: DVR produces files in standard AVI format and uses a good number of video codecs (well known codecs like divx5 for example, mjpeg, raw encoding if no compression is required, and a lot of windows codecs). The sound is stored in mp3 format or PCM.

Q: Can DVR record from several video sources simultaneously ?
A: Yes. You will certainly use the console version of DVR in this case.

Troubles:
---------
Q: DVR GUI is launched but the video window is empty, what happens ?
A: The video device could not be opened. Check that the video device currently used is coorect : see the field "video device" in the "Video interface" panel. If you use a RedHat system the video device is something like "/dev/video/0" and not the default value "/dev/video"

Q: DVR GUI is launched but the video window is empty, although I am certain that the video device is good, what happens ?
A: On some hardware the video device needs to be tuned. Launch xawtv, kwintv, or another program like that once before DVR, there run once again DVR.

Q: DVR GUI is launched, but the video window is blue, what happens ?
A: The video device is not tuned on the correct station or channel, use the "Video Interface" panel to configure it.

Q: DVR GUI is launched, everything seems fine, but when I click on the Record button the software freezes and doesn't record anything.
A: Check that no software like artsd or esd is blocking the sound device. While such a program runs, DVR can't record sound and is waiting the device to be freed. You can try to run dvr this way : "artsdsp dvr", or "esddsp dvr".
